Council Member Huson's decision to invite Mike Cohen to speak to the council at the study session on March 10, 2008 was a slap in the face to the citizens of Ruston. No one faults Mr. Cohen for accepting the invitation, nor for his legitimate concerns about how the Town is treating him. But it is disrespectful for council members to invite one side to the table and deliberately ignore everyone else in the room.
Huson defended his decision because the problem is costing Cohen more money than anyone else. No one can argue that, but that does not give him more right to be heard than any homeowner trying to get a permit. Our elected officials should know that better than anyone, since it is the lowly voter that gave them (most of them, anyway) the privilege of serving this community.
Once again, the Ruston Connection gang has proven their narrow focus and intolerance for open discussion of the issues. I shouldn't be surprised, but I am amazed at how many ways this group can find to slap us around.
