BACK DOOR ATTACK, BRING THE ROOF DOWN

Ruston CABAL council meeting Monday, June 16th, 2008 7pm school, floor two:

Nexus of the meeting they are hell bent on annexing to Tacoma! Stopped from going through the front door by the wrath of Ruston citizens they are now sneaking in through the back door. With Wayne's secret annexation meetings exposed they hunkered down while developing a new and more lethal strategy.

How: turn over all town services in POINT RUSTON including fire and police, permitting, engineering, et al to Tacoma. Tacoma's initial response we might as well start annexation talks (Tacoma Weekly). Jim Hedrick, Ruston's guy, saw through this and offered an amendment to delete police and fire, seconded by Jane, bless her, but voted down CABAL 3, RUSTON 2. There is still time to stop this hopefully without damaging Point Ruston development.

Don't count on it. Full speed ahead blinders on the CABAL attack machine plows on, a totally myopic destructive force. About a dirty dozen newcomers to the town of Ruston determined to wipe it off of the map. They complain I do not presently live in the town and my response: I have lived in Ruston longer than any of them. I also think this 102 year old town is worth saving.

Worth noting the RFP for Town Administrator according to Brad is now for a part time position. Isn't that what the former Mayor requested a year ago? And, oh yes, we have all been waiting for this: the new town Special Legal Counsel appointed by the council sits is the chair formerly occupied by the former Town Attorney who was appointed by the former Mayor Michael. The more things change ... However, he does address the CABAL council directly apparently getting the word that whispering is a no no, naughty, naughty.

The realization of the town's importance transcending these petty bullies of wherever they came from CABAL when on a Saturday morning 98 year old Fred Greer walked, walked into the Ruston Inn with friends and ordered breakfast. Fred is a WWII veteran worked at the smelter 34 years before retiring. And he always has a smile and a wave for everyone.

The smirking, menacing, enamored of themselves CABAL wouldn't recognize Fred or any other old time Ruston resident if they came in direct contact with them.

Strategy two: bring the roof down with lawsuits and judgments, legal fees on both sides, by starting a series of lawsuits they cannot win. Forcing the town into bankruptcy while preaching save our town. Two faced invasive species? Next lawsuit the Point Defiance Casino to be initiated at Study Session Monday June 30th when they plot to increase gambling tax a mere 666 percent. Their justification: Unicorn and Ruston Inn also targeted by increasing pulltab tax. They will close down pulltabs at Ruston Inn but Unicorn does not sell pulltabs, surprise.

And Dan A.s closing comment "extremely hard working council in spirit of cooperation!" With whom? Dan, oh Dan, we sincerely wish it were true. What a pleasant town this would be.

Winey Wayne chirped in responding to a citizen general public comment: "You just made a comment." Brilliant, but the objection was to not being able to respond to town business on the agenda before the vote. Wayne, there was an old time saying in Ruston in regard to birds in the bush which we will paraphrase, "A one minute comment before the vote is worth two minutes after." I will attempt to explain this to Wayne in detail, speaking very slowly, at the next council meeting.

They could be saved from reversing prior votes two meetings later, namely emergency street digging.

Good news in general public comment it was announced there will be Community Center dedication, complete with plaque, to former RUSTON council person MARY JOYCE at the school July 26th 2-5 pm. Well deserved. Mary you saved the Ruston School which you and I attended, please put in a word to save the Town of Ruston. You can do it, I have witnessed that grim determination, always with warmth and respect for others, with which you have stood steadfast for the Town for many, many years.

We will all be outta here soon I fear.
